Earlier this year, Toronto Water approached CWN to conduct a study on the prioritization of actions and investments in stormwater management. They were interested in learning from peer communities across Canada about their approaches to prioritizing and selecting projects and investments to protect properties from flooding.
CWN gathered a detailed understanding of prioritization approaches from six utilities: the City of Vancouver, EPCOR Water Services Inc. (Edmonton), Kitchener Utilities, the City of Ottawa, the City of Montreal and Halifax Water.
The confidential report dives into the nature of how stormwater-related management units and programs are structured, how they evolved, and how they are being implemented in terms of prioritizing work and selecting projects. The report identifies key trends, best practices and other elements to consider when designing a customized prioritization approach.
Toronto Water has agreed to share the confidential findings from this study with their peers in the Consortium Leadership Group.
