Earlier this year, CWN undertook a study ―with support from the Insurance Bureau of Canada― on how to frame and structure a new Canadian Centre for Climate Information and Analytics (C3IA) so that it would be useful for, and used by, municipal decision makers.
Canadian municipalities are on the front lines of making key decisions that impact Canadians every day. As the owners of 60% of public infrastructure, they are constantly making short-, medium- and long-term decisions about risk management and setting priorities for climate change adaptation. Municipalities also generate data and information that could further inform the decisions made by other sectors. Thus, ensuring that municipalities can participate in and benefit from the C3IA will greatly increase its ability to deliver value to all Canadians.
We began the study by discussing key areas of overlapping interest with a group of eight experts, which included CLG members Susan Ancel (EPCOR Water Services Inc.), Michael D’Andrea (City of Toronto) and Hervé Logé (City of Montréal). The information gathered from this group was used to shape the study’s preliminary recommendations, which were then validated by municipal decision makers across the country through a questionnaire. Thank you to all Consortium members who contributed to CWN’s study, either in an advisory capacity or by completing the questionnaire.
A summary of insights, as well as the full report, is available in the document library (see Reports – Published & Confidential Reports – Framing the C3IA to Advance Municipal Flood Management) or can be downloaded here:
