Canadian Water Network (CWN) is pleased to receive funding from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) to deliver a wastewater-based surveillance program in partnership with the National Collaborating Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCCID).
The program supports the effective interpretation and communication of wastewater-based surveillance (WBS) data by public health practitioners, including the unique needs related to WBS in remote and isolated Indigenous communities.
PHAC’s funding announcement coincides with today’s summit on wastewater-based surveillance, hosted by CWN and NCCID, in Winnipeg. The summit brings together public health practitioners from 11 different agencies in four provinces and four Indigenous regions, national and international wastewater surveillance experts, and decision-makers from PHAC and ISC.
At the summit, participants are discussing how to build capacity to use WBS in public health decision-making. They are also identifying promising practices to further integrate WBS into public health surveillance.
