The Canada Water Agency (CWA) is inviting candidates to submit applications for funding to support projects that help protect and restore freshwater ecosystems across Canada. These opportunities empower communities and partners to take action that improves water quality, restores aquatic habitats, and strengthens capacity for sustainable freshwater management.
Several calls for applications are now open under Canada’s Freshwater Action Plan, including initiatives for the Fraser River, Great Lakes, Lake Winnipeg, St. Lawrence River, and Wolastoq/Saint John River. Additional funding is available through EcoAction, supporting community-led projects and innovative solutions for freshwater sustainability nationwide.
Projects funded through these programs will advance regionally tailored actions, engage Indigenous knowledge, and help ensure clean, healthy freshwater for generations to come. Application deadlines begin in December 2025 and extend into January 2026.
