Coming soon: Updates to Health Canada drinking water quality guidelines

December 11, 2025

Health Canada develops the Guidelines for Canadian drinking water quality in partnership with the provinces, territories, and other federal departments.

Health Canada will soon publish draft guidelines for haloacetic acids for a 60-day comment period. At that time, the department will look for comments from regulatory authorities, decision-makers, and the public on the draft document. Information gathered from this consultation will be used to revise the document as needed. The final guidelines for Radiological Parameters will also be available online soon. Publication of both documents is anticipated in December 2025.

To get notices on when this and other water quality consultations are open, and final guidelines are posted, please register for the Consultation and Stakeholder Information Management System and choose “drinking water quality” under Area of Interest.
