What strategies can utilities use to communicate risks associated with PFAS?

The presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in water and wastewater systems is drawing increasing attention across local, national, and international media. As public concern grows, water utilities face mounting pressure to explain how they are monitoring and mitigating PFAS-related risks. At the same time, this challenge presents a valuable opportunity to proactively engage stakeholders on the importance of PFAS management and the need for continued investment in utility infrastructure.

In this webinar, Dr. Vincent Covello, founder and director of the Center for Risk Communication, shared proven strategies for effectively communicating PFAS risks to the public. Drawing on decades of experience in risk, crisis, and change communication, Dr. Covello explored practical approaches utilities can use to build trust, address public concerns, and overcome common barriers to implementing a successful risk communication strategy.
