Housing, Infrastructure, and Communities Canada (HICC) is introducing a new climate toolkit initiative to help communities build resilient and low-carbon public infrastructure, such as water and wastewater facilities. This initiative will offer tools and support services to help communities integrate climate-smart solutions into their projects. These include:
- A climate help desk that will respond to questions on how to integrate climate change considerations into infrastructure projects (including water, stormwater, and wastewater), and provide support on environmental requirements in HICC funding programs.
- An online platform that will guide communities to curated solutions and resources – including geospatial hazard maps, tools, options and case studies – all in one centralized location.
- A roster of experts that will connect communities with leading experts in climate and infrastructure. These specialists will offer tailored advice on climate adaptation and mitigation options that can help strengthen infrastructure projects.
The climate toolkit initiative can complement the Canadian Water Network’s work in increasing water security, assisting municipalities with net-zero water servicing, and strengthening climate-resilient stormwater management. For more information, please e-mail [email protected].
