We are pleased to announce that the City of Waterloo and the City of Winnipeg have joined the Canadian Municipal Water Consortium’s Leadership Group.
The Canadian Municipal Water Consortium is a network of utility leaders who advance municipal water management across Canada. Its Leadership Group, composed of 26 large and progressive utilities, enables senior leaders to discuss key issues, trends and decisions with their peers. The utilities also guide and support the consortium’s initiatives and help accelerate national progress on emerging issues.
“An individual municipal water utility may have unique circumstances, but we all face the same challenges with emerging issues,” says Tim Shanks, director of water and waste at the City of Winnipeg. “Joining the Canadian Municipal Water Consortium’s Leadership Group creates an opportunity to share information with other cities, develop solutions in real-time, and connect directly with senior municipal leaders to collaborate on industry best practices.”
One key benefit of joining the consortium is the opportunity to participate in Strategic Sharing Groups. These groups convene thought leaders to share knowledge on emerging issues related to topics like climate change, contaminants of emerging concern, affordability and digital transformation. Strategic Sharing Groups enable members to learn from each other’s experiences, identify knowledge gaps and co-create solutions.
“The City of Waterloo has belonged to the CWN’s Canadian Municipal Water Consortium as a municipal partner for several years,” says Natasha Glauser, manager of compliance and programs at the City of Waterloo. “We’ve participated in Strategic Sharing Groups on data governance and accelerating net-zero actions, in addition to attending Blue Cities 2023. We are excited to expand our involvement by joining the Canadian Municipal Water Consortium’s Leadership Group this year!”
The City of Waterloo and the City of Winnipeg are both leaders in municipal water management, with a strong commitment to sustainability, resilience and excellence. They bring valuable insights and perspectives to the Canadian Municipal Water Consortium. We look forward to working with them over the coming months and years.
