Climate change is causing rapid changes in water quality and quantity across Canada.

Our water and climate program helps communities and water-reliant economic sectors find solutions that effectively increase climate resilience and minimize greenhouse gas emissions.

Our program currently focuses on three key issues: water security in the Prairies, net-zero water servicing, and climate-resilient stormwater management.

Program Highlights

Understanding Climate Impacts in the Prairies

We’re collaborating with the Prairie Adaptation Research Collaborative and ClimateWest to understand the impact of climate change on water availability and land suitability across the Canadian Prairies.

Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions

In support of our Canadian Municipal Water Consortium, we continue to support the adoption of approaches and technologies to reduce GHG emissions from water, wastewater and stormwater services.

Adaptation Considerations in Long-Term Planning

An upcoming project led by CWN will leverage Canadian and international expertise to help water managers across the country integrate climate adaptation considerations into long-term urban water planning.

Land Acknowledgement

Canadian Water Network (CWN) respectfully recognizes and acknowledges the deep connection that First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples across Canada have with the land that all Canadians call home. We also honour and recognize the significance of the treaties that establish the relationship between Indigenous peoples and settlers on this land.

Our office is located in Waterloo, Ontario, on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. More specifically, our office is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that extends six miles on each side of the Grand River.

We are grateful for the privilege to work and live on this land.
