Canadian Water Network had an exciting week in Toronto, presenting, networking and socializing with colleagues from around the world at the International Water Association’s (IWA) World Water Congress and Exhibition. Some highlights include:

  • Receiving a Water Canada Award for the National Wastewater-based Surveillance Program we’re undertaking in collaboration with the National Collaborating Centre for Infectious Diseases.
  • Hosting a forum on new advancements in chemical assessment and cumulative health impacts, led by our CEO Nicola Crawhall, with Dr. Milou Dingeman, chief science officer at the KWR Water Research Institute, and Dr. Niladri Basu, professor at McGill University.
  • Participating in the IWA’s Utility Leaders Forum, where Kim Jusek, manager of our Canadian Municipal Water Consortium, exchanged views, networked, and accessed insights from prominent water utility leaders from around the world. A recording of the session is available here under the heading “Assessing chemicals in our water.”
  • Engaging in climate mitigation sessions. Our senior program advisor, Jessica Akande attended a business forum sponsored by Xylem and a session on bridging the gap between climate adaptation and mitigation.
  • Joining a KWR-sponsored panel on intergenerational views on the future of water management, featuring our Board Chair Carl Yates and Climate Program Coordinator Meghan Ewing.
  • Speaking on the vital role of river health, with Sandra Cooke, CWN’s director of communities and climate, contributing to a panel discussion.
  • Hosting a social event to unite municipalities, private companies, NGOs, research institutes, and others committed to achieving net-zero in wastewater.
