As the federal lead for freshwater science, Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Science and Technology Branch is leading the development of a National Freshwater Science Agenda, an inclusive and coordinated roadmap that identifies the most pressing freshwater challenges across Canada. It will inform a coordinated approach to the science needed to address these challenges over the next 10 years. We thank all those who participated in the online freshwater science prioritization survey and focused roundtables which took place throughout the summer and fall of 2024. Findings from the prioritization survey and roundtables are helping to inform development of the Science Agenda, with anticipated release in spring of 2025. Ongoing discussions between ECCC and Canadian Water Network, in the context of emerging science questions, will further inform the implementation of the Science Agenda.

Further engagement with provinces and territories, Indigenous knowledge holders, academia, NGOs, professional associations and many others will take place over the course of the Science Agenda implementation, beginning in 2025.
