The Net Zero Water Roadmap is a national initiative that will help Canadian water and wastewater utilities understand, measure, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions while strengthening resilience to climate change. By bringing together utilities, municipalities, researchers, and industry partners, the roadmap will provide a shared vision and practical pathway for achieving net zero emissions across the water sector while maintaining reliable, affordable, and sustainable services.

The roadmap will showcase leading practices, innovative projects, and real-world examples from utilities across Canada. Through case studies and knowledge sharing, it will highlight how organizations are reducing emissions, improving energy efficiency, optimizing operations, and preparing for future climate-related challenges. By documenting and celebrating progress across the sector, the roadmap will help accelerate the adoption of proven solutions and inspire further action.

As a living resource, the Net Zero Water Roadmap will support decision-makers with actionable examples, tools, and insights that can be adapted to utilities of different sizes, capacities, and regional contexts. The roadmap will also provide a platform for collaboration and peer learning, helping utilities navigate uncertainty and build more resilient water services for the communities they serve.

The Net Zero Water Roadmap is scheduled for launch at the end of 2026 and will serve as a valuable resource for the sector’s ongoing transition toward a low carbon, climate-resilient future.
