Facilitating cross-jurisdictional collaboration

Canadian Water Network convenes and facilitates a collaboration that crosses several municipalities along the north shore of Lake Ontario in support of a common goal: to develop the Lake Ontario Water Quality Forecasting System.

The Lake Ontario Water Quality Forecasting System is a dynamic 3-dimensional water model of the Lake Ontario nearshore from Whitby to Mississauga. The model will support decision-making during an emergency where materials are spilled into creeks and storm drains and are flushed into Lake Ontario, potentially impacting drinking water intake. The regional municipalities of Peel and Durham, the City of Toronto and the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks are collaborating to develop this model.

This collaborative work supports the Credit-Toronto-Central Lake Ontario Source Protection Plan (CTC SPP). The Source Protection Plan outlines policies and activities required to protect the drinking water sources supplying municipal drinking water systems.
