CWN empowers the water community to deal with complex issues, to achieve results that advance infrastructure sustainability, improve watershed quality and protect public health. CWN tackles water management challenges, attracting and connecting the right people, identifying shared needs, and determining where essential regional and national progress can be made.
During CWN’s first seven years of NCE funding, we focused on connecting researchers separated widely by geography, habit and discipline to the diverse water management community, combining resources to support the complex challenge of water management.
The role of Canadian Water Network has evolved to where we now influence the national debate on water. Our network’s expertise is increasingly sought to inform water policy as well as improve water stewardship in Canada.
Canadian Water Network is a key mechanism by which Canada can continue to enhance and ensure its leadership and the sustainability of a clean, safe supply of water to support our national social, economic and environmental goals.
After seven years, scores of research projects, hundreds of researchers, students and partners, we have built an outstanding national network of people dedicated and committed to a national vision for water sustainability in Canada.
CWN’s research does not remain in the lab. Our Knowledge Translation activities connect our researchers with our partners ensuring the results of our research are translated to governments, industry and NGOs.
This annual report highlights how our dedicated researchers and partners are shaping the future of Canada’s water resources in terms of public health, watershed management and infrastructure.
We will support the application of knowledge and innovation to solve critical water issues facing society. By building a strong Network and sustainable partnerships CWN is contributing to prosperous and healthy communities across Canada.
As we move toward a truly national network, we couldn’t be more pleased with the enthusiasm and excitement of the researchers, members and partners who helped us through this dynamic evolution. They have had a critical role in shaping our future and have embraced the new challenges for CWN.
In March 2003, the CWN held its inaugural National Symposium in Saint John, New Brunswick. The Symposium program was full and the sessions were well attended. Presentations on the Network’s 28 research projects, in addition to presentations on industrial, federal and provincial initiatives, highlighted the level of excellence in research that CWN embodies.
