Monitoring is an important component of managing lakes within the Muskoka River Watershed because it provides information about lake conditions over time. This monitoring enables managers to evaluate whether human activities are adversely affecting the physical, chemical and biological quality of a lake.
Scientists have been examining information on economic costs, water quantity/quality benefits, and cost effectiveness of agricultural BMPs at a watershed scale using farm economic, watershed hydrologic and integrated economic-hydrologic modelling. This project developed the WEBs open source GIS tool to make BMP modelling systems accessible to agricultural conservation practitioners.
This report examines the cumulative effects of hydraulic fracturing operations on surface water, watersheds and water demand in a regional context.
